Welcome to FreeBird Velo:

What is FreeBird Velo? To answer simply it's a small one room t-shirt design show. I ride, design, and then print those designs on t-shirts to sell to other people who ride. It's pretty simple but somehow it's become a great part of my life.

Every t-shirt design is done by hand, I'm a crusty little curmudgeon and hate computer design. Well there is a little computer design involved but nothing too intense. If you happen to buy a tee from FBV you can be sure that it was made by hands that spend quite a bit of time on top of handlebars too.

So welcome to FreeBird Velo, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

It's Giro Time

First week of the Giro is in the books and it was GOOD. Cav's lead out train finally synched up, Adam Hansen's breakaway succeeded, and Alex Dowsett time trialed to his first grand tour win. I love this tour!

The Giro is awesome, here are my reasons:
-Italy becomes one huge pink boot. It's true, you can see it on Google Maps.
-Beautiful scenery. You got the coastline, rolling hillsides, ancient towns, and mountains, oh the mountains!
-The Tifosi. Half the fun is watching the roadside spectators, but guys, please lay off the nudity. Nasty.
-It gives you an excuse to delve into Italian culture for the month. Try new Italian recipes, drink more wine, and play more Bocce. Oh yeah, ride your bike more, and while doing so yell "Ciao!" to everyone you pass.

Coppi tee is available at the FBV Etsy shop, click link at the top of the page.

Giro d' California or Tour of Hell on Earth

Picture
The Tour of California started Sunday in Escondido and all I can say is it was nasty hot. 100+ degrees and 11,000 feet or so of climbing was not a nice way to welcome a star studded peloton to California. Don't get me wrong, the landscape is beautiful, Mt Palomar is an awesome climb and the valleys surrounding it beg you to ride through them, just ride it when it's 20 degrees cooler. Back to the star studded peloton, you couldn't throw a bidon without hitting a world champion. Well, at least at the BMC bus. Andy Schleck, Sylvain Chavanel, Marco Pinotti and of course Philippe and Thor are all here.
If the peloton can make it through stage 2 the rest of the tour should be somewhat enjoyable for them. I don't know what the tour organizers were thinking, having Palm Springs as a stop in May, it's mind boggling. So good luck guys, and enjoy our potholes.
